Data engineering,
built as a platform.
Lakehouse and warehouse platforms, ingestion, streaming, orchestration, contracts, quality and governance, engineered as a platform, not accumulated as a pile of scripts.
A complete data-engineering practice, engineered end to end.
From platform and ingestion through streaming, modelling, contracts, quality and governance, our practice covers the full delivery surface of a modern data estate.
Data architecture & strategy
Target-state architecture, capability maps and roadmaps grounded in your workloads and economics, not in reference architectures lifted from a cloud vendor slide.
Lakehouse & warehouse platforms
Lakehouse and warehouse-native platforms on Databricks, Snowflake, BigQuery and Redshift, with open table formats (Iceberg, Delta) where they earn their keep, and lock-in where they don't.
Ingestion & integration
Batch and CDC ingestion from operational systems, SaaS and files, on Fivetran, Airbyte or custom connectors, with schema evolution, backfill and reconciliation designed in from day one.
Streaming & real-time
Streaming pipelines on Kafka, Kinesis, Flink and warehouse-native streaming, engineered for the latency the business actually needs, with replay, ordering and exactly-once semantics handled honestly.
Orchestration & pipelines
Airflow, Dagster and Prefect pipelines that read like software, modular, tested, observable, with retries, backfills and cost-aware scheduling as first-class concerns.
Modelling & transformation
Warehouse-native modelling with dbt and SQLMesh, versioned, tested, documented, so downstream consumers can trust the shape of the data and its meaning stays stable over time.
Data contracts & interfaces
Contracts between producers and consumers, schemas, semantics, SLAs and ownership, so a change in a source system doesn't quietly break a pipeline three hops downstream.
Quality, observability & reliability
Tests, freshness and volume SLAs, lineage and anomaly detection on Monte Carlo, Great Expectations and open equivalents, so incidents are caught before the CFO opens a dashboard.
Vector & AI-ready data
Embedding, chunking, feature and vector-store operations for AI workloads, engineered on the same governed platform as BI, so training and retrieval data stays consistent and auditable.
Migration & modernisation
Migration off legacy warehouses, Hadoop estates and hand-rolled ETL, cutover as a rolling wave with parallel-run and reconciliation, not as a big-bang weekend that gets rolled back.
Governance, privacy & security
Cataloguing, access control, masking, lineage and consent, aligned to GDPR, HIPAA, DORA and sector regimes, designed in from day one, not bolted on before an audit.
FinOps & platform economics
Warehouse cost, storage and pipeline economics measured, attributed and tuned, with query optimisation, storage tiering and workload scheduling driven by numbers rather than instinct.
Stand up the spine. Then migrate without a bad weekend.
A delivery model that lands a working platform spine with the first governed domain on it, then migrates the rest of the estate onto it in rolling, reconciled waves.
Frame
Working sessions to map current-state pipelines, sources, consumers and pain points, and agree the workloads and SLAs the target platform has to serve. The output is a phased plan with a first slice scoped.
Foundation
Platform, ingestion patterns, modelling standards, orchestration and observability stood up as a working spine, with a first governed domain landing on it, so subsequent work compounds instead of forking.
Migrate & extend
Legacy pipelines migrated as rolling waves with parallel-run and reconciliation. New domains onboarded onto the standards. Contracts, tests and lineage arrive with every pipeline, not after.
Operate
Reliability, cost, freshness and quality monitored as ongoing engineering disciplines. Enablement and runbooks are designed in so the platform is safely owned by your team on the day we hand over.
A modern data-engineering toolchain.
Platform, format and framework selection is driven by your workloads, existing estate and long-run economics, not by category-analyst preference.

What prospective clients ask us first.

01Lakehouse, warehouse or both, how do you approach the platform decision?
It's a working decision, driven by workloads, not by category. Warehouse-first architectures on Snowflake, BigQuery or Redshift give the fastest path to trusted analytics; a lakehouse layer on Databricks or open table formats like Iceberg and Delta gets pulled in where ML, unstructured data, cross-engine access or open-format economics genuinely earn it. We design so components can be swapped and open formats can be adopted incrementally, rather than as a one-way door.
02Batch or streaming, how do you decide, and how do they coexist?
By working backwards from decision latency, not from architectural taste. Most workloads are perfectly served by micro-batch on the warehouse; streaming gets pulled in where the business cost of stale data is real, fraud, operational dashboards, personalisation, ops alerting. When both exist we design them against a single semantic model so the streaming view and the batch view of the same metric agree, and we avoid the classic lambda-shaped bug factory.
03How do you handle data quality, contracts and reliability?
As first-class engineering, not as a quarterly clean-up. Data contracts between producers and consumers, schemas, semantics, SLAs and ownership, are versioned and tested in CI. Pipelines carry tests, freshness and volume SLAs, and lineage traces every metric back to the source. Incidents are triaged the same way software incidents are, with owners, runbooks and post-mortems, so trust in the data compounds instead of erodes.
04How do you migrate off legacy warehouses, Hadoop or hand-rolled ETL without a bad weekend?
As a rolling wave, never as a big-bang. We stand up the target platform, dual-run the two estates against the same sources, reconcile the outputs metric-by-metric, and cut consumers over in scoped batches with a same-day rollback path. Legacy pipelines are retired only after their replacements have passed reconciliation and lived in production long enough to earn trust, which is usually the difference between a migration that lands and one that gets quietly reversed.
05How does data engineering intersect with AI and generative-AI workloads?
Foundational data determines model outcomes more than model choice. Our data engineering practice is designed to serve both classical analytics and AI on the same governed spine, with embeddings, chunking, feature stores, vector-store operations and lineage on retrieval sets treated as first-class engineering artefacts. That way training data, evaluation data and inference-time retrieval share the same contracts, governance and observability as the rest of the estate.
06How do you approach platform cost, FinOps and long-run economics?
Cost is engineered, measured and attributed, not blamed on the vendor. We instrument warehouse spend, storage, compute and pipeline runtime, attribute it to consumers and workloads, and tune with query optimisation, storage tiering, workload scheduling and materialisation strategies. The output is a platform whose cost curve is understood, negotiable and defensible to finance, instead of a bill that arrives with a surprise every quarter.
